"Los Angeles Convention Center
Background and Business Strategies, Modernization and

the Cohesive Development of the Event Center"

Abstract:
The Los Angeles Convention Center is a significant regional economic and jobs engine tasked with representing Los Angeles before a local, regional, national and international audience. Its rapid transition over the past six years into a dynamic business entity focused on customer services, environmental stewardship, fiscal solvency and social corporate responsibility has been unique in leading a major paradigm shift within the industry. The adoption of a methodology of strategic positioning and development and pursuit of an ambitious roadmap and aggressive goals are key elements of its unprecedented success.
The recent activities in terms of the $1.5 B modernization of LACC and development of a 70,000 + stadium/event center projects have brought forth new opportunities for LACC to further enhance the fabric of Los Angeles and its branding as the sports, entertainment and event capital of the world.
Once completed these projects in addition to the multibillion dollar development of LA Live campus including the Marriott/Ritz Convention Center Headquarter Hotel are the realization of a vision initiated a decade ago through the development of Staples Center.

The web started on the PC and within a few short years it quickly penetrated into our cellphones, tablets, TVs and will soon get into just about any piece of hardware we own or interact with. Such explosive growth of "smart" phones with intelligent software driving "dumb" hardware devices is creating a pretty amazing set of possibilities and opportunities. In this talk, we briefly discuss some of the more fundamental changes that have recently emerged and present few interesting trends that are currently happening and will soon deeply affect our daily lives.

"West County Connectors" Project

Abstract:
The West County Connector Project was initiated by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to link high occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes/ car-pool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) to create a seamless HOV connection amongst the three freeways. The Project traverses the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Long Beach and the community of Rosemoor.

"Recent and On-Going Los Angeles
Water Systems Projects and Studies"

Abstract:
The Los Angeles Water System is undertaking a large, $5 to $7 billion 10-year, capital improvement program driven by several initiatives, including:
  • Water Quality Improvements
  • Water Resources
  • Infrastructure Improvements
  • Seismic Improvements
An overview of several recent and on-going projects and related studies will be presented covering different aspects of the above listed initiatives. The presentation will include descriptions of the Terminal Hill Tunnel and Shaft Project, Headworks Reservoir Project, several large diameter pipe and tunnel projects, other dam and reservoir projects, and results from a recent Expert Review of Water System Pipeline Breaks in Los Angeles.

Nanomaterials and Wastewater

Abstract:
Use of manufactured nanomaterials in everyday products is increasing exponentially. Nanomaterials are defined by extremely small size (1 to 100 nm), high reactivity and unique physical and chemical properties. Also, with the increasing use of these materials, there is a potential for some of these materials to be released into the environment. This presentation will give an overview of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, potential sources of nanomaterials release into the environment, environmental fate of nanomaterials, and potential applications of nanomaterials for water and wastewater treatment.
